Our lovely charity shop Ynysybwl Vision Shop has been up and running thanks to the amazing donations and thank you to the wonderful volunteers that run it.

This service to our community now needs your help. Do you have a few hours a week to help? Maybe you want to help run the shop floor, maybe you have a car and wouldn't mind picking up our online sells items and drop them off for us?

If you have a just a bit of time and would like to help make sure this service for the community is operating at its best, please don't hesitate to get in contact. If you are unsure of how you can help, pop us a message and we can work something out that benefits everyone.

“ All aboard ” Vision’s first movie night

We will be hosting a Polar express themed movie night! At the vision hut on Tuesday 16th December

Imagine stepping into the hut transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Soft twinkle lights glow like stars, casting a warm shimmer across blankets and pillows arranged to resemble seats on the Polar Express itself. A golden train ticket for each guest rests on the cushions, inviting everyone aboard for the night’s adventure.

The smell of rich hot chocolate fills the room, steaming mugs topped with whipped cream, marshmallows, and a sprinkle of cocoa waiting on a small “refreshment” table. Next to them sits a bowl of popcorn, the perfect mix of cozy and classic movie-night comfort.

As the movie begins, the sound of the train whistle echoes through the room, and everyone settles in, sipping their hot chocolate while the snowy scenes light up the screen. Wrapped in blankets, guests feel like they’re traveling right along with the children to the North Pole, carried away by the music, the warmth, and the magic of the moment.
It’s a night filled with sparkle, comfort, and childlike wonder, a little holiday escape on the Polar Express.

Tickets will be on sale soon.

Wear pyjamas for an extra cosy feel.

Under 10’s must be accompanied by an adult.

We will have lots of sports and crafts for the family which will either take place at Butchers Pool and in our new building, The Vision Hut .

Monday

We hope you are ready to dance with our Summer Dance Special @The Vision Hut !

This activity if for the entire family from children 4+.

Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday

Fitness Fun is going to be an entertaining way to do some fitness activities with the children.

From 1 - 2pm will be for under 10s.

From 2 - 3pm will be for 10 +.

This activity will be at Butchers Pool run by the amazing fitness trainer Robbie Edwards

Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday

We will be down at Butchers Pool with Game On run by The Coalfields Regeneration Trust Wales . Shout out to our Ynysybwl Co-op who will provide snacks for this session so everyone can top up their energy and continue on playing and enjoying the pool.

Thursday

We have Arts, Crafts & Bushcraft . Pop in whenever you like to this session from 11 am to 1 pm. Rachel Rix and Anna Billes will be crafting from our Vision Hut.

There is a little swap on the following dates:

- On Tuesday 19th, we will have arts, crafts and Bushcraft @Vision Hut from 11 am - 1pm.

- On Thursday 21st, we will have Fitness Fun Butchers Pool from 1-3pm.

There will be healthy snacks provided at all the activities.

Fantastic News about our EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)

Fantastic News we have received our results this morning from an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) energy assessor who informed us that we achieved the highest result he has ever given for our energy efficiency at 'The vision hut' that being an "A" rating.

We’re thrilled to announce that most of our weekly activities are now taking place at our new building—the Vision Hut! ��✨ (Except for Tiddlywinks, which remains at Zion Chapel).

Here’s what’s happening this week—all welcome!

Monday

S.E.N & Home Schooling Club (10am - 12pm)

A safe, welcoming space for SEN and home-schooled children and their families. Drinks and snacks provided.

Fee: £1.50 per child.

Tuesday

Tiddlywinks @ Zion Chapel (10am - 12pm)

For preschool-aged children (guardian must attend). Located at Zion Chapel, 107 Robert St.

Fee: £1.50 per child.

Craft Club (3pm - 4:30pm)

Open to all ages! Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. Most attendees are 5–10 years old.

We’re thrilled to bring back our exciting multi-sport sessions for children during the school holidays! Organized by , in collaboration with The Coalfields Regeneration Trust Wales and Ynysybwl & Coed-y-Cwm Community Council , these sessions are designed to keep kids active, engaged, and having fun.

We’ve already stocked up on a few essentials to help with dampness and mould in the home, as well as some handy gardening tools. But now, we need YOUR help !

What an awesome day we had yesterday at Butchers Pool for the Taste Station! Game On brought the energy with their fun activities, and we kept everyone fueled with some seriously tasty (and healthy!) free snacks.

The highlight? Watching the kids become little smoothie masters, whipping up their own creations with all sorts of fruit combos.

We can’t wait to do it all again next week! This time, we’re teaming up with Game On for their final sports day on Wednesday—so you know it’s going to be epic! We’ll be there to cheer them on and keep everyone refreshed.

After school activities

During the coldest time of the year, Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership offered a warm place for families to enjoy a cuppa, snacks, warm packs and activities to keep the children busy after school. We had lots of fun twice a week crafting with nature and giving new life to materials that would otherwise be thrown in the trash.

Thank you RCT CBC for the grant which allowed us to provide these activities to the community.

We are looking at continuing the crafts after Easter break, stay tuned.

Summer Days

We had an amazing summer! Massive thank you to the young people volunteering at the pool this season, helping in many ways from setting up, tidying, preparing smoothies and our picnic buffet. It was fantastic to see older kids encouraging younger ones to try new things (and healthy) fruits, drinks wraps, etc, The games and challenges, water fights, chalk art, conversation were fab! Thank you to all who came and to our funders.

Mobile Learning Communities : Multiplier event March 1st 2023

Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership has been a partner in the Mobile Learning Communities project funded through Erasmus. We have worked with partners across Europe developing a handbook and toolkit that encourages young people to develop their own information on their local area to produce QR codes that set challenges for people to undertake and have fun.

It is common knowledge that most young people carry a smartphone and we decided they’d be the perfect tool to explore the H5P platform made available through Mobile Learning Communities. Luckily the 40+ young people that attended were confident to give it a go after a brief introduction and ‘how to’ on using ‘google lens’. There were about a dozen QR codes hanging in and around the club that incorporated trivia, the Welsh language, local history, fitness challenges and even karaoke! Let me tell you a lot of giggles ensued. Once a young person completed all the challenges, they were given the opportunity to edit something they had just completed on H5P or replace with a new prompt altogether. Before long the QR trail content was entirely young person created – (and very silly!). Although it was a light-hearted event the young people had some concrete takeaways: they were introduced to our partner organisation’s platform, they learned how QR codes can be created and utilised for learning, and they practiced themselves on H5P and as users (many had not used a QR scanner before). We wrapped up the session by asking young people to find our notice boards around the village and on the Lady Windsor trail so they can scan and learn more about the biodiversity on their doorstep. Happily, several young people returned in subsequent weeks to share what they found and explored the content through the QR scanner we had introduced them to.

Prior to this evening event young leaders participated in a series of workshops in July 2022 where we unpicked civic engagement through activism and discussion (litter picking, trail maintenance, Himalayan Balsam pulling). We designed workshops around our learning that were then adopted into the Mobile Learning Communities handbook for use in partner organisations. In the winter of 2022, we also had the opportunity to pilot several of the wellbeing workshops from the handbook and our young people thoroughly enjoyed diving into the subject matter and sharing in a supportive/constructive manner. We had deep discussions about self-esteem, positive and negative habits as well as routines that could set them up for success. It was great having inspirational ideas to run with from another country and a refreshing new perspective. At the conclusion of our wellbeing series the participants went on to discuss ways they could pass their newfound knowledge forward and give back as well. It is a great program, and we are lucky to be part of its development.

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership. Our projects encompass developing community assets, youth work, promoting environmental initiatives, online learning, gardening, getting outdoors, raising awareness, volunteering, the list goes on!

Work to create a nature garden at the Bwyth site has started. The garden package has come from Keep Wales Tidy (KWT) Local Places for Nature grant and KWT project officer Maria Toogood has been supporting us to install the garden. Many thanks to the volunteers who have been helping by building, digging and planting, transforming the site. Also thankyou to YRP's Dave Harris who has been coordinating the volunteers and also been hands on with everything needed to make the garden a success. Eat a Rainbow

A big thankyou to Western Power Distribution, Community Matters Fund and Localgiving who have provided a grant enabling YRP to set up Taste Station activities throughout the Summer Holidays. Taste Station aims to introduce people to different foods and smoothies encouraging participants to eat a rainbow of a variety of fruit and vegetables. It also encourages people to grow their own fruit and vegetables using different ways of planting. Mondays we're at Zion Chapel from 12:30 - 14:00 and at Butchers Pool Thursdays and Fridays from 12:30 - 14:00. Join us and eat a rainbow at the Taste Station.

Reflections from Christmas 2021 @Caban Guto

In the month of December our amazing volunteers ran a series of Christmas events at Caban Guto. The volunteers wanted to do something special for the local communities, especially families and children & young people because the pandemic as we know, has been particularly hard on many of us so, the volunteers wanted to bring a bit of joy and festivity to the end of 2021.

The Caban Guto volunteer team ran events on the 11 ^th, 12 ^th, 17 ^th & 18 ^th of December.

They held traditional hymns and carols, festive storytelling, children’s craft, and Sion Corn himself made several appearances. The kitchen volunteer crew made sure everyone was well fed, serving up, festive cocoa, mince pies, bacon and sausage baps, and some lovely sweet treats were donated by volunteers.

The weather wasn’t always on our side but the volunteers prevailed, and with a little help from our friends at Butcher's Pool, our event could go ahead as they provided a robust Gazebo for the second weekend.

A local photography group, Happy Snappers donated an extremely generous 1 ^st prize to the raffle which was, a family photoshoot won by four lucky people. In addition to families who booked on to the main event, we were joined by walkers and bikers who were passing by, and even had visitors from as far afield as Cardiff, as our volunteer marketing crew made sure the event was well publicised on social media.

The biggest takeaway from the event is how much volunteers pulled together, and through pure grit and determination, they made these events a success and are now keen to explore what is next for Caban Guto visitors.

The second big thing we discovered was the astounding generosity within our community, we were overwhelmed with donations of all kinds. We want to say a very special thanks to Rhondda Fach Women’s Institute for a surprise donation securing much needed equipment for the Caban, we were over the moon to receive this, as it will make the volunteers job much easier and enable them to keep offering hearty warm food, and explore how they can continue to expand the menu.

We would like to thank our our very own Dave Harris and the BeActif project, who provided a contribution and his own time as part of Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership to support these events. We were gifted kitchen equipment from a lady of unknown location! We hope we can locate you to give you the thanks you deserve, and Siop y Bwl who provided cost price items for Santa’s traditional gift bags that were just delightful. We want to take the opportunity to thank Ynysybwl Co-op for a donation of mulled wine and mince pies as part of their community offer, and Lucinda Cadwallader and Little Me House who supported us with a food donation, and stock run for our Accessibility Event that took place back in September (before we had a page!) Finally, we would like to thank the Con Club which is the Caban Guto, volunteer meeting HQ where all our creative planning takes place, this space is really important to us.

What we have learned and will take from 2021 is this, if you do something with love, which is what all our volunteers do every time we open our doors at Caban Guto, it tends to come back to you tenfold because kindness begets kindness as the old adage goes. So with that, Happy New Year everyone… from all the Caban Guto volunteers, we hope 2022 will be the best one ever.

CABAN GUTO & Feeding the Fitness Elites!!

Ollie Ollerton & Break Point

Over the weekend 5-7th November the Break Point team and leader Ollie Ollerton stayed at Daerwynno Outdoor Activity Centre which is the perfect setting for the DENIED course which is a brutal endurance and resilience fitness course for the mega fit.

The website states that the final part of their Mission Series is, "the most mentally and physically challenging event that Break-Point offer and the closest you will get to SAS Selection and Channel 4s SAS: Who Dares Wins."

Participants from all over the UK were pushed to their absolute limits and the Caban Guto Volunteers were lucky enough to witness some of the training that involved, flares, smoke grenades and trained dogs. We provided the exhausted recruits with some delicious warm food and drinks after what was clearly a mind, body and soul-breaking, three days survival on ration packs.

Caban Guto volunteers told us, "We can't wait for them to return to the centre so we can cater to the group again, it was so exciting!"

Ynysybwl Vision was visited by Heledd Fychan MS and Senedd Regional Member for for South Wales Central and Plaid Cymru. The visit took place on 4th of November after Heledd read the Ynysybwl Vision Impact Report and wanted to see for herself the unique work going on across the community of Ynysybwl.

During the visit, Heledd was taken on a tour accompanied by some of the YRP team and chatted with many inspirational community leaders from various groups. We met at the office in Windsor Place then went on to the Lady Windsor trail, part of the Cribbin Ddu walk developed by the paths and trails vision group. Then we arrived at Butcher's Pool which is a paddling area that is cherished by local families. This was taken over by, 'Friends of Butchers Pool' who, with grit and determination took complete ownership in ensuring that the pool is open each summer for everyone. In 2019 FOBP were supported by Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership and the Vision, and the pool was fully refurbished. Finally we stopped off at our newest venture, Caban Guto for a hot bacon roll a drink and the most wonderful, spicy beetroot soup served in beautiful earthenware.

Heledd was beyond impressed with what we have achieved as a community and recognised the unique nature of our community asset-based approach to life in Ynysybwl. Together we have created so much based on collaboration, and commitment driven by the people who live here. Ynysybwl and the Vision is thriving and vibrant, and this was all the more apparent through the eyes our our visitor.

Official Opening of Caban Guto by Cath King (volunteer)

Caban Guto is the new visitor centre in the forest, it's next to Daerwynno Outdoor Activity Centre, in St Gwynno forestry Ynysybwl CF37 3PH, it's open on a Wednesday and Saturday 10.30am-2pm for snacks and light refreshments.

It was Caban Guto’s grand opening on Saturday 10th July 2021, a speech was given by Barbara Castle, chair of Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership, and the Caban was officially opened by Brian Arnold by cutting the ribbon, thank you Brian it was great to meet you today. Because of Covid restrictions guests were invited to wish the Caban well, there were representatives from local outdoor groups along with Beth Winter MP and Local Councillor Sue Pickering.

I volunteer at Caban Guto on a Wednesday, and I really enjoy being there, it’s a great place to be. My parents Pamela and John were very proud of me, to be offered a volunteer placement at the Caban, as they knew I would be in my element there - in the forest with the reservoir and Pistyll Goleu waterfall close by, they say they are both very proud of me, making a good go of things. I’m glad my parents were able to come along to the opening to see it all happen and to see where I volunteer.

I love going to the reservoir, sitting there watching the water and eating my lunch, I hope Caban Guto will do lunch boxes and then maybe you can take a walk up there - sit, relax and have your lunch made by Caban Guto, it’s so lovely there I highly recommend it and it’s well worth a visit. I also love the waterfall – Pistyll Goleu – I really love the sound of water. I first came to the forest with Debbie Hopkins who knows I love water, I find listening to the water calms me, so when I found out I could volunteer at Caban Guto I was excited to be able to volunteer in a place close to the places I love.

I enjoy volunteering at Caban Guto, meeting new people and learning new skills, I have been volunteering at the Caban on a Wednesday and started on the Caban’s first day. I get on very well with everyone and I’m pleased my parents have now seen where I work and the location it’s in so when I talk about it they know now where it is and what happens there.

Here is a photo of the inside of Cabin Guto were it all happens, the right-hand photo is of the view I see on my way home, it is really worth coming to this place, having a walk in the forest and then stop off at Caban Guto for refreshments. I was glad I was introduced to this place and slowly getting used to being there, it gives me new experiences and I’m learning new things as well.

I would like to see Caban Guto grow and be open more days (as the Caban is run by volunteers this will depend on the number of volunteers that can be recruited). The Caban is in a lovely location with forestry landmarks and trails close by.

So please come along and join us here at Caban Guto for a Tea, Coffee or soft drink you will be be very welcome.

NHS stay well this winter

Some important information from the NHS to help you stay well this winter.

NHS have made changes to how they provide care to make it safer for you during the coronavirus pandemic. If you’re worried about your health, don’t delay – help us help you get the care you need this winter.

Winter conditions can be bad for our health, especially for people aged 65 or older, and people with long-term conditions such as heart or kidney disease, COPD, bronchitis, emphysema, asthma or diabetes.

Being cold can raise the risk of increased blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. The cold and damp weather, ice, snow and high winds can all aggravate any existing health problems and make us more vulnerable to respiratory winter illnesses. But there are lots of things you can do to stay well this winter.

Five things NHS recommend you do:

1, Make sure you get your flu jab.

2, Keep your home at 18°C (65°F) or higher

if you can.

3, Take advantage of financial schemes and discounts to help you pay for heating.

4, Contact NHS 111 if you are worried about

any symptoms.

5, Look out for other people who may need

a bit of extra help over the winter.

Chris's Walk and Talk

Since 2008 there has been a walk and talk group leaving Ynysybwl Community Centre every other Saturday at 11am for friendship walks around Ynysybwl. During that time, the walks were planned and led by Chris O’Brien. In April this year, Chris sadly died from cancer. In memory of her personality and hard work, Eryl Williams has made a website of the routes walked by Chris’s Walk & Talk group with some description to help any newcomers to find their way around Ynysybwl.

A Local World Record Holder

Nos Galon Races

Many of our community have taken part in the Nos Galon races over many a new year. So now would seem a good time to profile the athlete the races commemorate, Griffith Morgan.

Griffith Morgan was born in 1700 and lived in Nyth Bran Farm which sits on the hillside above Porth. in his short, 37 years of life Guto Nyth Bran (as he is better known) become a prolific long-distance runner.

Many of our community have taken part in the Nos Galon races over many a new year. So now would seem a good time to profile the athlete the races commemorate, Griffith Morgan.

Over the Centuries many stories regarding Guto have grown, many of them emanating from the history published by Glanfrwydd. i believe that many of the tales have been embellished an embroidered upon over the years but that Guto was a talented and dominant long-distance runner that actually existed is beyond dispute.

Here are some of the stories surrounding the athlete, you can decide which are true and which maybe are exaggerated:-

Whilst living on the farm he was used by his father to round the sheep up more efficiently than any sheppdog. He is reputed to have run to Pontypridd (3 miles) and back to fetch milk and made it before the kettle boiled for the brew. To have run an errand for his mother to aberdare and arrived back before she finished gossiping to a neighbour. often after runs it is said that he lay in a fresh manure heap to warm and relax his leg muscles.

He was often seen running against horses and following the hunt. One story tells that he became so engrossed in following the hunt that before he know it he'd run to the edge of Cardigan County. A Friend of his was Sian O'r Siop (there's no evidence that she was a girlfriend or wife) who became quite wealthy betting on his running career and ultimately was the cause of his downfall.

now we come to the finale of Guto's story . in 1737 he was challenged to a long distance race by an English runner called Prince, from Saint Woolos Church in Newport to Bedwas Church, a distance of 12, 10 0r 9 miles depending on which route and the runners started at such a pace that the riders were hard pushed to keep up. Guto being a social animal stopped evry so often to pass the time of day with friends en route. Guto raced to the finish line where he meet by his friend sian who slaped him on his back he then

collapesd dead on the spot.

The wonders of walking

I've walk most of wales, it's mountains it shores and it's valley's. So these are my thoughts on why I walk. For many years I took this activity for granted now I look at it in a different light. To be able to walk out your front door and into an outdoor space is for me uplifting. So what's the reason for this feeling, I would say it's a personal one, I've looked at nature with eyes of both a young child and now as a middle aged man. All these years it's the four sessions I've walked, that I enjoy the most with summer that gives me the most pleasure. It takes ne right back to my childhood. I now feel its time to share my love of walking with you the reader, so it's a start of a journey really, a journey of a welsh man and his passion for walking.

They say you can take the welsh man out of the mountain but you can't take the mountain out of the welsh man.

So I am starting there in the mountains, it where I was born, educated work and lived all my life. People, friends and family have all moved away for work or new lives but I've stayed put. I know now why that is. It's the welsh mountain they have a hold on me, the sort of hold a lover would have on your heart.

When I was a young child my family would take walks in the summer, I am sure it was to save money on public transport, but as a child I didn't know that then. We would walk miles to visit family and friends stopping only for a short visit then return either by bus our walking back. I remember those walks to this day and can retrace them even now.

Coal mining for many welsh communities was the norm, I am very lucky now that all the coal mines have been cleared away and I get to see what these areas were like before that time.

Hello,

My name is Beth and I immigrated to Ynysybwl from Baltimore (USA) in 2016. My husband Rob was born and raised here. The village started to feel like home to me in 2018, the year following my daughter's birth. The reason being was that I spent a lot of time exploring the beautiful natural surroundings and I started attending social groups. After years in big cities the hills, animals, picturesque trails, fresh air did me a world of good! To make my own personal friendships alongside a new parenting journey was fantastic as well.

Fast forward to March 2020 and I was five months pregnant and looking after my busy two year old full time. We attended four baby groups a week (especially loved Tabernacle's groups run by Mary Chinnock and the local Meithrin), as well as Mini Strollers every Thursday organised by the Ynysybwl Vision group. We always had somewhere to go with friendly faces. It was a hard adjustment when the lockdown stopped it all. Of course we understood and respected the guidelines but my daughter was very sad at times and longed for her best buddies.

What got us through the months of solitude in good spirits was long walks on the Taff trail, beautiful weather, our own garden and speaking to friends online.

I'm so glad I had the confidence to explore outdoors each day and the relationships with others in similar positions to lean on for moral support.

Pregnancy is an emotional rollercoaster in normal times let alone a pandemic, but I still felt hopeful throughout. My healthcare was wonderful and my immediate family unit was very tight after the months finding a new balance. My son was born just as restrictions were lifting in July and the outpouring of support from the community was touching to say the least!

I hope that my daughter can begin her education at Trerobart in January and that we can have baby meetups again in the near future. These outlets meant a lot to me as a first time parent and I'm longing for them with my second, even if they are different due to social distancing/hygiene measures.

My heart goes out to all those on the frontlines of the pandemic and to those who lost loved ones to this dreadful virus. I'd like to sincerely thank all of the workers that kept my family safe, healthy and fed over the last six months too.

Cyhoeddiadau Lemonêd Are Building Their Network

A Perfect Combination!

Young, inspirational, quirky and unique. Those are words that not only describe 'Cyhoeddiadau Lemonêd', but also 'AfroSheep Animations', an independent animation company based in Carmarthenshire.

The two have recently paired up to create a short yet effective animation to support 'Cyhoeddiadau Lemonêd' in their marketing campaign.

This animation will hopefully be the first of many collaborations, not only between 'Cyhoeddiadau Lemonêd' and AfroSheep, who plan on having one of their future stories transformed into an animated cartoon, but also between YRP and AfroSheep.

Meet Katie

At Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership we would like to take this opportunity to welcome Katie as our new volunteer. Katie is now undertaking a new voluntary role on our new Ecommerce website. This involves managing all the online sales that come through the website. By working with Katie as part of one of the Social Enterprise groups that YRP support, we have provided her with the training and confidence needed to go onto this role.

Katie has really enjoyed the training that she has taken part in and is looking forward to stepping into this new role. She is looking forward to the new experience that holds additional responsibilities and feels this is going to help her with future employment when she embarks onto her career.

Environmental Learning Day

Valleys River Trust, Keep Wales Tidy and Welcome to our Woods provided a group activity at the bomb which included animal and plant identification. The activity also included a craft session making grass weaving.

Up-Cycle Bicycle Maintenance

During February half term Up-Cycle Bicycle Maintenance were invited over to Cambrian Village Trust where they completed several full bicycle services ready for Cambrian to lead bicycle rides during the summer months.

Litter pick Keep Wales tidy

As part of YRP becoming a Keep Wales Tidy “Hub”, local residents had been invited to our first community litter pick at Lady Windsor Taffs Trail. Apart from the weather was well attended.

Bush Craft Activities Dare Valley County park

A group of 10 year old's from project youth visited Dare Valley park to take part in some outdoor learning. Some of the activities included having to safely build and start a camp fire this they then roasted marshmallows, built water proof dens and generally enjoying being outdoors.

Refurbishment of Butchers Pool

Create Your Space Funding has enabled the refurbishment of Butchers Pool a much loved paddling pool located in Clydach Park Ynysybwl.

Butchers Pool is a local gem attracting many families to the make use of this lovely community facility each Summer. However the pool was in need of some Tender. Loving, Care there was a substantial leak that needed to repaired and the surface of the pool relaid, the toilet block and the surface around the pool was not fit for purpose and the Plant room building also needed attention.

The Friends of Butchers Pool working with the Vision Group prepared a specification for the work and appointed contractors. The Refurbishment of the area began in May 12019 and was completed for the pool opening in July 2019.

Enterprise Week at Pontypridd High School

Beginning on the 24th November 2018, Pontypridd High School held an enterprise week in the style of popular TV show Dragon's Den for years 7 and 8. Pupils competed for a spot in the annual Christmas Fayre, where they could win a stall to market their own product, and the opportunity to pitch for a loan to cover their startup costs.
