Butchers Paddling Pool

Butchers Paddling Pool -A Create Your Space project

Is a community owned paddling pool that is open every summer for the benefit of the community and run and managed by Friends of Butchers Pool volunteers.

About

The paddling pool is one of the most important community facilities in the village of Ynysybwl. In 2014, the community got together to save the pool from closure forming Friends of Butchers Pool, who worked in partnership with RCT and took on an annual license of the pool. This ensured that the pool was maintained and opened during summer season for the community to enjoy.    Every year the group has raised money to keep it running and cover all costs. It was apparent that the pool needed major improvements, specifically a leak in the pool as the group were paying huge water costs.

By working together YRP and Friends of Butchers Pool we have:

·      renewed all pipe work around the pool

·      resurfaced the pool area with soft flooring.

·      refurbished the toilet block

·      replaced the roof

·      renewed the toilet facilities and the electrics

·      installed new changing rooms.

·      Installed a new roof in the plant room

·      new window and a new holding tank.

The pool is open annually at the start of all summer holidays from 11am – 6pm. Volunteers continue to ensure the pool is open to the community by undertaking regular first aid and lifeguard training. YRP holds the lease for the pool and supports the group to access funding from RCTCBC. Friends of Butchers Pool has funding from the Community Council and every year the community come together to raise funds to cover all costs. These monies go towards the running costs of the pool, training for volunteers and to employ and train three lifeguards from the village to work at the pool side.
